With a decade of consulting experience and over 50 projects delivered, Nicholas O’Shea has built a strong reputation as a trusted advisor in management consulting to executives in nuclear, energy, aerospace, defense, and industrial equipment. As Partner in North America, he helps clients optimize operating models and industrial strategies, enhance product and service competitiveness, and improve supply chain performance and readiness. He also advises on OPEX and CAPEX optimization and supports acceleration of time-to-volume.
At Avencore, Nicholas has played a central role in expanding the firm’s nuclear practice in North America. For instance, he has supported utilities in evaluating next-generation reactor technologies, designing vendor selection strategies, and strengthening project readiness for new-build programs. He has also advised operators on long-term refurbishment and subsequent license renewal initiatives, driving efficiency gains of billions of dollars in CAPEX while safeguarding project schedules. His achievements include reducing costs by more than 50% on nuclear modernization proposals, securing $100m+ million in savings on a major refurbishment program, and improving manufacturing throughput for critical components by up to 600%.
In addition to client delivery, Nicholas has been instrumental in expanding Avencore’s presence in North America, leading business development initiatives and mentoring teams to strengthen the firm’s long-term capabilities in the region. Today, Nicholas continues to combine deep technical expertise with strategic insight, helping industrial leaders navigate complexity, strengthen competitiveness, and execute transformation at scale.
Nicholas began his career as a researcher at the Socio-Technical Risk Analysis Laboratory at the University of Illinois, where he advanced probabilistic risk analysis for nuclear power plants. He was awarded the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy Graduate Fellowship and published multiple papers on nuclear safety.
