Jessica Dillon – Consultant – University of Michigan College of Engineering

Why have you decided to become an Avencore consultant?

I knew I was first interested in consulting after being exposed to a “pre-consulting” track at my university that combined business curriculum with engineering. When I started looking for a role in the management consulting field, I met Avencore at a career fair and knew it had the potential to be a good fit because of the emphasis on using our technical, engineering degrees. Everyone in the recruiting process was very supportive, and when I got the offer to join, I knew I could not pass it up. So far, I can say it has more than exceeded the expectations I formed during the interview process.

What do you like most about your job as a consultant and work at Avencore?

I enjoy working with our clients to tackle tough problems in industry by combining our diverse experiences and best practices with their insights. The teams I have worked with have been passionate, and I appreciate being surrounded by peers who are equally dedicated to the work we do and impacts we make.

What role does innovation play in your daily work at Avencore?

Innovation plays a key role in connecting my technical background to new and exciting challenges. Throughout a client project you are likely to encounter problems similar to what you have seen in the past, as well as something unique that requires the team to get creative and “make it happen” as quoted from one of our core values.

What was useful in your studies to work at Avencore?

I have found the projects where I was working with ambiguity needing to come up with all the answers knowing certain pieces of data and supporting evidence were missing was an extremely helpful part of my studies. Having to critically think and support hypotheses with logical reasoning is an important skill and plays a part in a consultant’s everyday work.

What has been your personal highlight working with a client so far at Avencore?

My favorite memory working with a client was taking part in a week-long working session that pulled together stakeholders from across the globe. This was a cross-regional effort both internally at Avencore and externally with the client. This experience was a pivotal point in the project to continue driving our efforts and bring about a forward-looking culture of change.
