Delivering Business Impact Through Technical Problem-Solving

Taylor Huneycutt – Manager

Duke University – The Fuqua School of Business

Why have you decided to become an Avencore consultant?

I joined Avencore as a Manager in our North American branch after having spent a number of years with a large, global management consulting firm. When I first learned about Avencore, I wasn’t exactly searching for a new career opportunity. I had heard of the name, but wasn’t completely aware of what the firm does or the types of clients they serve. However, through the course of my recruitment discussions I found myself being drawn in by the uniqueness of Avencore’s value proposition: providing top-tier management consulting services through an engineering lens.

What makes working at Avencore a unique consulting experience?

Before I began my consulting career at my previous firm, I worked in the Aerospace and Defense industry as an aeronautical engineer. I found a great deal of fulfillment in the technical challenge of this work and its importance to US national security, but I wanted to be closer to where real business impact was being made. Fast forward to my transition to consulting, I had found what I was looking for in terms of this business impact, but I felt I had left behind a major part of my professional persona by no longer working as an engineer.

When Avencore and I crossed paths, I was immediately struck by the realization that there indeed was a place where I could find the best of both worlds when it came to my professional interests. Here was a place where I can work with clients to solve their complex business challenges, while also flexing the engineering “muscle” I had worked so hard to build. Despite the uncertainty of jumping from a large firm to a boutique, the decision for me was simple.

What do you like the most about your job at Avencore?

The benefits of working here at Avencore are numerous, but perhaps the greatest in my mind are the variety of challenges we tackle and the degree of autonomy we have to do so. Here, we aren’t constrained by industry or offering- it’s truly a “choose your own adventure” environment. To those considering joining us, particularly if coming from another consulting firm: take the leap. Your future self will thank you for the career acceleration it will have brought.
