"For me, the most important thing is all the different insights I get."

Florian Kieback – Senior Consultant – KIT (2021)

What do you like most about your job and work at Avencore?

The variety of projects types and industries. My first project was on a hydrogen production plant, followed by projects on cable harnesses, special machinery, satellites and railway batteries. Besides the different products and industry insights the project type often differs between projects, e.g. Redesign-to-Cost or CAPEX to name just two. For me, this range of topics is what makes working at Avencore special, in combination with highly motivates and supportive colleagues.

Also looking back, as a newcomer at Avencore, you get the opportunity to work on projects directly from day one and be present at the client at an early stage, which could take much longer in larger consultancies.

Why have you decided to work in consulting and not in industry?

In industry, you often have your own area of responsibility and I would miss the variety. In consulting, on the other hand, you get to work on a lot of different topics and get to know a lot of different companies, so you learn quickly. So the main reason why I wanted to work in consulting is the variety of insights and topics.

Why have you decided to join Avencore?

At the end, the decisive factor was that Avencore does not have a specific industry focus. In addition, while redesign-to-cost projects have been a focus in the past, the projects are now covering all aspects of an operational improvement and cost reduction. Other consultancies often have an industry or project focus. We are more broadly positioned.

How is the relationship to your colleagues?

Definitely very open and friendly. Whether you are working together on one project or on different projects, you can always reach out and get support when you need it, regardless of hierarchy.

What tips do you have for students about starting a career in consulting?

Being open to different topics is important. This is also a result of the diversity of our projects and industries. You need to be able to think your way into complex problems to gain the required understanding.

You should also be prepared to take on responsibility, for example for appointments and working results. Of course, you’ll never be alone, but the longer you’re with us, the more responsibility you’ll get regarding meetings and results.

What do you think makes a good consultant?

You should be prepared to approach people. It is often the case that you work with client employees to identify improvement opportunities and assess the potential impact including the definition of action plans.

In general, however, it is very important to be open for new topics: to have the desire to tackle many exciting topics and understand how different companies work, to take on responsibility, and to achieve a good project result in a team.
